This beanie is indeed short as the description says and doesn't cover the ears. It feels soft, has one seam, a 44cm circumference and a 6cm hem - which you could open up to increase head coverage. It's actually quite small even for a small head and if the wearer has a good head of hair it soon moves up and doesn't stay in place. It's got a thick rib stitch (1x1) which gives is a bit of flex to expand to fit your head size but it doesn't stay in place. The care label inside confirms that it's 50% wool and 50% acrylic. It also says that it should be hand washed in cold water and not bleached. Guidance about ironing is a bit confusing because the word 'no' is not repeated in front of 'cold iron' but is probably implied. Indeed there are also symbols indicating: washing machine at no more than 30degree C, no bleach/tumble drying/dry cleaning/iron. Feels warm and soft but if you're after more coverage, this is not for you.

Ever since they searched for the young soul rebels, I've called a fisherman's beanie a Dexys hat, and have owned many over the years since...and honestly, this is as good (if not better) than any! As my previous green baggy and 'oosy' (bobbled) one hit the bottom of the bin, this went straight on, and to my complete satisfaction. The material is of excellent quality, the fit perfect with a feel of flexibility, heat retention and warmth apparent instantly, and out of a generous range of colours, a fetching mid grey, and as you can see looks the ticket altogether! The asking price is way reasonable....a tenner represents excellent value for a high quality product! Mibbe time for a new donkey jacket!

Presentation The Samserot Wool Short Fisherman Beanie was supplied in the olivine colour as requested and shipped in a small plastic sleeve with no branding apparent. First Impressions Taking the beanie from the sleeve, it is very soft against the skin with and almost shiny lustre about it, the small tag on the beanie states it as 50% wool and 50% acrylic the latter probably explains the shine. The ribbing is quite wide on the beanie when fitted on the head and it is around 1/3rd shorter than the standard beanie. There is a seam joins up the beanie which I assume is meant to be placed at the back of the head. Day To Day Use The fit is good, the softness of the material makes it very comfortable and it has quite a trendy look about it. The beanie stretches well so is not tight but does stay put on the head when fitted and it is nice and warm, you can pull it to fit more of the head too with that stretch. Summing Up A comfortable, trendy, soft and warm beanie – good for these colder months.

Family members told me this won’t fit on my head but it does and I like it. It is not designed to fit over the ears so I found it ideal for use while wearing ear defenders. However, I also found it was possible to stretch it down over the ears. Not least it is thick and warm and a great colour in blue.

The stitching is pretty good and feels strong. The material is soft, not rough or irritating, and the wool isn't scratchy. The fit is snug and it stays put, even in strong wind. While the stretch is great, you’ll notice the pressure after wearing it for a an extended period. Still, it’s the kind of hat that feels like it’s made for purpose. A simple, practical piece that holds up well. Nothing fancy, but nothing disappointing either. For the price (£9.99 at time of review) I would say it is amazing value for money.
